Eylem AKDENİZ GÖKER is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Political Science at Altınbaş University since 2012. She is mainly interested in topics related to Turkish politics, diaspora studies, ethnicity and migration studies, and sociology of opinion producers.
Dr. Akdeniz received her BA and MA degrees in Political Science from Middle East Technical University (METU). She finished her PhD in Political Science at Bilkent University where she had an assignment as a research assistant. Her dissertation topic focused on a political sociological topography of ‘liberal democrat’ opinion producers within Turkish context during the nineties. She recently is keenly working on the problematic of the formation of Circassian ethnicity and diasporic identity in Turkey. Her ongoing research involves Syrian Circassians, in a joint Project with Prof. Ahmet İçduygu (Koç University, Center for Migration Studies) and the historical “Manyas Exile” of Circassians in the early Republican era. She has another ongoing field work, titled “Conflicted Circassian Identity between Diaspora and Turkish Citizenship,” funded by Altınbaş University and submitted to TÜBİTAK’s 3501 Programme. She has recently published in Turkish Studies and Jadalliya.
She was a participant of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Studies program in 2014 in Jerusalem, Israel.
