Undergraduate Program

The Undergraduate International Relations Program aims to:

  • offer expertise in the discipline of international relations,
  • provide students with an extensive knowledge of government, political processes, political systems and the relations among international actors,
  • create familiarity with social and managerial disciplines related to the study of international relations,
  • educate students who will competently and responsibly lead, manage and work in public, civil society and business organizations,
  • provide the ability to adapt to change in a rapidly-evolving global environment,
  • help students gain cultural appreciation and respect for diversity,
  • educate informed, socially responsible and active citizens,
  • provide competence in written and oral communication at a global level,
  • provide an appreciation and motivation for the lifelong learning process and the ability to assess and improve their personal development.

The graduates of International Relations Department should:

  • grasp core theories and concepts in the academic disciplines closely related to the study of international relations such as law, economics, sociology, history, European studies and cultural studies,
  • identify and distinguish theories, concepts and phenomena in international relations areas including: comparative politics, political theory, political history, political institutions, international law, international organizations, diplomacy, European studies and Turkish politics,
  • apply international relations theories to understand, analyze and interpret contemporary local, regional and global affairs,
  • analyze problems and draw correct inferences using qualitative and quantitative analysis,
  • demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills in Turkish and in English,
  • utilize computer technologies employed in academic and business life,
  • develop the ability to think critically,
  • take the responsibility to complete projects successfully and promptly,
  • understand the importance of adaptability and the need to manage change in a complex, rapidly evolving global, political and social environment,
  • acquire the skills and motivation for lifelong self-learning,
  • display awareness of and sensitivity to ethnic, religious, cultural, and gender diversity values and issues,
  • possess high ethical standards in social, political and professional life,
  • solve problems and make decisions both independently and in teams,
  • exhibit an awareness and concern for their role as members of their social communities and as citizens,
  • develop intercultural competence that will enable them to work in multicultural and multilingual environments.
