Undergraduate Program

The Undergraduate Economics Program aims to produce graduates with leadership skills who are equipped with the following competences:

  • Ability to apply the basic concepts, methods, and theories of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
  • To gain a thorough understanding of how economic policies and international events influence and shape individual behavior and determine economy-wide outcomes.
  • To be equipped with the fundamentals of quantitative methods and statistical inference.
  • Ability to collect and examine economic data and use proper tool and to evaluate an economic policy with its benefits and costs.

In addition to providing a world-class economics education, through close interaction and collaboration between faculty, business and industry, and professional, civic and governmental organizations, our program is designed to nurture our students to become contributing members of their team, organization and society by bolstering:

  • Competence in written and oral communication in English and Turkish
  • Cultural appreciation and respect for diversity 
  • A strong sense of personal integrity, professional ethics and social responsibility
  • An appreciation and motivation for the lifelong learning process and the ability to assess and improve their personal development

The Graduates of the Undergraduate Economics Program should be equipped with the:

  • Understanding of the essential body of knowledge in the discipline of economics (microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, international trade, international finance, public policy, statistics, and econometrics).
  • Ability to relate economic theories with real-life applications, develop effective economic policies, and make decisions that support public and private policy making. 
  • Understanding of the uncertainties and risks in the world of economics.
  • Ability to evaluate the current events and economic developments in the international environment and diagnose international economic problems.
  • Ability to conceptualize and formulate solutions to economic problems and make the appropriate recommendations to improve economic performance.
  • Awareness and understanding of the legal and institutional framework that shapes the economic structure of countries.
  • Understanding of the main actors, challenges and dynamics of the global economy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and/or orally with individuals from diverse backgrounds in English and Turkish
  • Ability to select and effectively utilize available resources to collect and analyze data, and draw appropriate conclusions from their research.
  • Ability to use common computer technologies employed in economics.
  • Understanding of the importance of adaptability and the need to manage change in a complex and rapidly evolving global environment.
  • Ability to appreciate and recognize contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds, and to effectively communicate and positively contribute as a team leader or member.
  • Awareness and understanding of active citizenship, social responsibility, and ethical standards in the economics profession.
  • Understanding of the importance of self-assessment and life-long learning in order to maintain personal and professional development.
