The researches in the field of architecture discipline will be studied and discussed from a methodological point of view. The course also will focus on the scientific ethics.


ARCH 501 DESIGN STUDIO I                                                                                 (2-4) 8 AKTS

A design work will be done on a project topic that will be defined based on the focus of the student's interest in architecture. The student will define the design problem and develop different solution methods depending on the defined subject matter.

Theoretical readings will be made on the concept of space in architecture and these studies will be associated with case studies.

Modernism and the modern architectural approaches in the world will be discussed through the case studies.


ARCH 525 20th CENTURY ARCHITECTURE IN THE WORLD                                           (3-0) 8

The major changes and progress in the field of architecture after the Industrial Revolution and their impact on Turkey will be discussed with examples from around the world.


ARCH 526 CITY AND ARCHITECTURE                                                                             (3-0) 8

The relationship of architecture to the city will be discussed with a theoretical and critical point of view in the social, scientific, cultural and political context.


ARCH 527 ANATOLIAN ARCHEOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURE                                        (3-0) 8

The effect of archaeological accumulation in Anatolia as an architectural heritage will be discussed through cultural heritage values.



While the traditional housing in Anatolia gathers the architectural, the user of this unit “family” emerges as the social unit. The mutual and contradictory relationship between these units will be discussed during the course.


ARCH 529 URBAN HOUSING                                                                                         (3-0) 8

Housing is a space of debate and struggle in between urban politics, property relations and cultural differences; a complicated design issue at the intersection of architecture and daily life. The course aims to discuss the urban housing theories and their projections on architectural design.


ARCH 530 ARCHITECTURAL SOCIOLOGY                                                                       (3-0) 8

This course aims to discuss the role of the architectural profession in today's society. It also questions the "human" s place in the design process, and therefore the definition of architecture today, with the effects of the architectural action on the lives of society and communities.


ARCH 531 THE REPRESENTATION OF ARCHITECTURE                                                  (3-0) 8

The relationship between architecture and representation will be examined and discussed through architectural theories.


ARCH 532 CINEMATIC SPACES                                                                                       (3-0) 8

The relationship between architecture and cinema will be examined and the formation of cinematic spaces through the concepts of time, space and motion will be discussed readings from a critical point of view.


ARCH 533 LEGAL ASPECTS OF ARCHITECTURE                                                              (3-0) 8

The design process depends on rules in the context of the legal administrative framework of the country. The rules in this area, the rights and responsibilities of the architect, the rules concerning the architectural product are the subject of this course.


ARCH 534 CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT                                                                  (3-0) 8

This course covers the basic concepts of construction management process and examines construction management applications through case studies.



This course intends to investigate the contemporary design criteria produced in historical/traditional environments. Also, this course will trigger to generate knowledge about how the different controversial-mutual relationship of new-old, historical-modern, national-international, local-global contributes to the contemporary (national) architecture.



ARCH 537 CULTURAL HERITAGE AND CONSERVATION                                               (3-0)  8

The definition of cultural heritage and conservation will be studied during this course. The controversial relationship of conservation and heritage notions will also be discussed through the economic and social values.


ARCH 538 DIGITAL DESIGN IN ARCHITECTURE                                                              (3-0) 8

The relationship of design process with digital design mediums will be discussed depending on the shifting architectural paradigms.


ARCH 539 DIGITAL DESIGN STUDIO                                                                              (1-3) 8

A determined design problem will be investigated through research by design methodology in a digital design environment.



Computational design, generative architectural design and applications, shape grammars and its fundamentals, fractal geometry, genetic algorithms, the use of genetic algorithms in creative architectural design, evolutionary designs fundamentals and approaches. Contemporary projects in this research area will be examined through case study methodology.

The relationship of digital design with different representation mediums, the transformation of representation mediums into design mediums and examination of this change within contemporary approaches through readings and examples.

The purpose of the course is to provide information about the physical conditions of the building, which are important parameters for creating the comfort conditions. Acoustical design principles for indoor spaces / Definition of room acoustics / Properties of room types that are of interest to room acoustics / Fundamental acoustical definitions such as sound, frequency, sound level, pitch / Principles of acoustical design in theatres, concert halls, lecture rooms and auditoriums / Relationship between acoustical design principles and the size, shape and dimensions of the room / Determination of general properties and materials of internal surfaces / Early reflections and the design of reflective surfaces / Acoustical defects and precautions / Brief introduction to various design criteria in the presence of a sound source and an audience such as in a concert hall / Supporting the theoretical information with practical applications / Introduction of project applications relevant to the topic / Teaching of examples that include simple calculations / Homework to support the learning process.


The aim of this course is to give information about the basic acoustical, indoor and outdoor noise problems. And to give sufficient solutions about different types of the noise problems. This course contains; sound and sound components, sound propagation and transmission. Noise and basic principles on noise control. The basic knowledge about National and İnternational standards and regulations on noise control will be given. Examples of the applications related with noise control of different building types will be discussed. Architectural acoustics, noise control-room acoustics, sound and sound components. / Audible perception. Hearing concept, weighted sound levels, and sound measurements. / Noise, Noise sources, acceptable noise levels, national and international standards and regulations, noise control and basic principles./ Sound from source to receiver. Propagation of sound. Sound source types. Sound propagation in open spaces and closed areas. Sound reflection./ Sound absorption, Material specifications, sound absorbing materials and applications./ Refraction of sound, relationship between the sound refraction and noise control. The relation of architectural design with urban public spaces and the basic elements, Investigation and evaluation through these basic elements that builts up the city; ergonomics, urban landscape, etc.



Introduction to digital fabrication technologies in architectural design and investigation on their usage area through case studies. Researching these technologies and producing a design through a determined technique.
